  1. SOLDIER SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON OVER MURDER The soldier accused of shooting dead three people in Gulu Town, Uganda has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. The sentence to L/cpl Geoffrey Odaga, attached to the 4th Division Army Headquarters in Gulu District, was handed out on Saturday morning by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti, the General Court Martial chairperson, during a sitting at Gulu District headquarters. Gen Gutti sentenced the convict to 40 years in prison on three counts of murder, 40 years in prison on aggravated robbery and 20 years imprisonment on attempted robbery, adding that the sentences will run concurrently. Court heard that on August 4, at about 11:30p.m, L/cpl Odaga, a serving UPDF soldier, with malice caused death of Denis Richard Ochen, Fred Yasin and Sunday Wokorach Ouma at Smiling Panda 2 bar located in Kabedo Opong Village, Bardege Division in Gulu District. Prosecution also contends that the soldier attempted to unlawfully cause the death of Jimmy Ojok and committed aggravated robbery by stealing four bottles of Senator Beer and Shs61,500. Gen Gutti noted that court will subtract six days from 40 years to the 39 years and 359 days since the suspect had already spent six days on remand from August 5 when he was arrested. The convict will serve his sentence at Gulu Central Government Prison.
  2. EMIR OF BUHARI’S HOMETOWN, DAURA, CRIES OUT, SAYS PEOPLE ARE DYING OF HUNGER The Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruq Umar has declared that the people from the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari are hungry and not getting enough from the Federal Government. Umar stated this when he received the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Audu Ogbeh at his Daura palace, on Monday. He also urged Ministers appointed by Buhari to reciprocate the gesture by coming to the aid of the people of his constituents through developmental projects and farm inputs. The Emir noted that Buhari’s Ministers were not doing enough to assist his hometown, Daura with viable projects. He said, “Buhari by his nature will not influence the siting of any projects in Daura. But his Ministers who benefitted from his appointment should reciprocate by bringing developmental projects to Daura, his birthplace. “It is a call to duty for the Ministers to make provision in their Ministry’s budget of ensuring that Daura benefitted immensely from Buhari administration. “If the Ministers failed to site any projects to Daura, they have betrayed the President and people of Daura. Like the Rice production in Kebbi State. Katsina has prospects in rice production and irrigation farming. “Katsina has dams and irrigation sites like Sabke, Jibia, Zobe, Daberan, Mai Ruwa dams and if utilized and reciprocated has potentials of feeding the state and it’s neighbours. “I urge you to go back, look inwards and search for what, how you can assist people of Daura. Daura is faced with the absence of projects for its development and its people are hungry and need federal government assistance.” Source; DailyPost
  3. Popular Nollywood actor, Mike Ezuruonye, in this interview with Tofarati Ige speaks on why people think he is a snub, play boy and woman beater. Enjoy! What is the most common misconception people have about you? People believe that I was born and raised in the eastern part of the country. Because of some of the roles I have played in the past, some people also think that I am mean and that I beat women. However, people now understand that it was just about me interpreting roles. Some people think that you are arrogant and snobbish. How would you describe your personality? I am sure that people who think that don’t know me and have never met me. Anybody who has worked with me knows that I relate equally to everybody, whatever their status. I play and joke a lot. People shouldn’t judge me by the characters they have seen me play in movies. Some people also believe you are a playboy. Are you one? They think that because of some characters they have seen me play. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

  5. A bomb blast killed at least five spectators during a football match in southern Somalia, police and a lawmaker said on Friday, the first time an explosion has targeted a stadium. The blast went off in the port town of Barawe, in the Lower Shabelle region, when residents were watching a football match on Thursday afternoon, police said, adding that al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab could be behind the attack. Police said it appeared to have been detonated by remote control. “The bomb killed five people and injured a dozen others in the football field. “All the casualties were from the onlookers,” Mahad Dhoore, a lawmaker for South West state told Reuters. Police officer Mohamed Aden said al Shabaab group was suspected of being behind the attack and put the number of dead at four and wounded at 12. “We believe al Shabaab was behind (it) and that the target was officials who were not seated there at the time of the match. “The bomb looked like a remotely controlled one that was planted there,” Aden told Reuters from Barawe. Al Shabaab is fighting to topple Somalia’s Western-backed central government and establish their own rule based on their strict interpretation of Islamic law. The group frequently carries out bombings and gun attacks in the capital Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia. “Al Shabaab carried out an explosion that killed teenagers who were just playing football in Barawe town. Al Shabaab is the only enemy we have,” President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed said during a farewell party for Somalia’s outgoing parliament speaker.

The discussion was sparked by US-based blogger Jessie Paege, who tweeted that having social anxiety doesn’t mean she ‘hates everyone’. She explained how it makes social situations more difficult, but it doesn’t mean she wants to stay at home in bed and miss out on having fun. Her tweet spurred hundreds of tweets from other people with social anxiety, revealing how different it is to the stereotype, admitting that at times they are affected physically as well as mentally. Jessie, who has 246,000 followers on Twitter, revealed how much more complicated it is to live with social anxiety than people believe. She tweeted: ‘Social anxiety is not ”omggg I love netflix and I hate everyone” ‘It’s longing to go to social situations that are easy for other people, wanting to use your voice, but feeling stifled, feeling trapped in your thoughts and so much more.’ Other Twitter users began sharing their stories, detailing their symptoms and struggles with the condition. One Twitter user, @EmmySheetz, posted: ‘Anxiety is staying up till four in the morning thinking about how situations could have differed, had you just changed one thing. ‘Anxiety is falling down the rabbit hole of endless “what ifs” and scenarios for all the bad things that *could* happen.’ Another, posting under the username @Colcyon, said: ‘Anxiety is suffering to speak while constantly worrying if what you’re saying is even remotely interesting, or if any of it matters to anyone. ‘That whenever interrupted, you feel like you should’ve done better to connect with the people you love.’ Others called for a stop to the casual use of the word anxiety, as it often used by people who are just shy, and not suffering from a medical disorder.

  15. This lovely Nigerian couple identified as Irene and Chiji have got people talking after their classy photos emerged online ahead of their wedding ceremony. The soon-to-be bride revealed how she met her fiance through her very class friend. Below is how their love story began; I met Chiji through a friend-turned-sister, Edwina. Eddie (like we usually call her) randomly told me about her friend in the church whom she’ll like me to meet, I was a little uninterested because I didn’t want to meet anyone (I was minding my business lol). She talked positively about him a couple of times and encouraged me to talk with him and that it doesn’t hurt…Now he had my phone number but still took him forever to call (lol ohh well, he finally called after a couple of weeks). Eddie and I were in her car one afternoon back to the office when Chiji called her to ask how she has been, she asked him if he had called me, little did he know we were together and the phone was on speaker, he replied back saying “our darling has refused to take her calls oo”, that was apparently the first time I heard his voice (anyone who knows Chiji knows his voice is to die for) and that got me blushing. Finally, he texted one Sunday introducing himself, and I was quite impressed with the tone of the message, the spellings (no abbreviations), etc, I could tell he wasn’t just a joke.I politely returned his call (OMG I said no long stories and I’m here writing plenty plenty). The first time we ever spoke that Sunday was like magic, we clicked on the spot, felt like I had known him for a long time and we planned to meet later that week. Fast forward to the dinner date night, I thought we agreed to meet at 5pm after the close of business, but he had a reading to take in church at 6pm (Chiji & Eddie are lectors in church) so we rescheduled for 7pm. I didn’t feel like going for the date anymore after we rescheduled, but I knew there was nothing I was going to tell Eddie that will make her see reasons with me on why I should cancel the date. Lol I remember her saying my shakara is something else together with Ogbanje. I tried all possible means not to go, I went as far as using the white shirt sleeves I was putting on to clean the makeup on my face (ogbanje), but guess what? Eddie took me to her house and carefully washed my shirt and ironed it again (lol) while we were still awaiting 7pm.It was 7pm and he called, he was 5 mins away…Boom Boom Boom and he was outside. I went out and met a perfect gentle man standing outside his car to receive me and open the car door for me (which hasn’t changed till date). We went out, wined and dined, laughed like never, had lively conversations, etc and since then, the rest is history as life has turned magical.

  18. Recently arrested 39-year-old vicious assassin, Adeola Williams aka Ade Lawyer, has confessed that he has killed over 100 since assassinating people was his source of livelihood. “But now I’m born again,” he said while being paraded. Williams, a father of three from Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, was recently arrested over the killing of one Ganiyu Ayinla, aka Pinero, who was the P.A to Adekunle Lawal, aka Kunle Poly, the NURTW chairman in Idumota, Lagos. While giving an account of his activities, he said, “If I get a chance to regain my freedom in this life, I will never go back to crime again. I also advise the millions of youths out there that crime does not pay. I was into crime for over 20 years and despite the risk involved and lack of rest of mind, I have nothing to show for it except the uncompleted bungalow in Ibadan. I have nothing on ground to fall back on despite taking the lives of more than 100 Nigerians. May God forgive me.” . However, Williams said he decided to take the life of Kunle Poly for refusing to talk to the state chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede, on his behalf. He said he worked hard for Agbede to emerge as the chairman but that he was dumped after the election. . Williams added, “I thought about my predicament because my wife was heavily pregnant and the money I was getting from Oluomo wasn’t enough and I wasn’t ready to use my gun for armed robbery, so I decided to end the life of the man who refused to help me mend my relationship with Agbede.” . He said after the attack on Kunle Poly, he was later arrested but that he didn’t want to go down alone, thus he indicted some other persons. . He added, “I decided to rope in Olorunwa because he was the one who ruined my life. It was my support for him during his fight with MC Oluomo that made me to lose my position at the union. . After he was removed from office, he had so much money but he was wasting it on women and movie actors and he refused to help me. I was just so bitter, so I framed him.” He said he also decided to lie against MC Oluomo and Prince Kazeem Aletu

  20. Jose Mourinho slammed criticism of Manchester United’s cautious approach in their 2-1 win over bitter rivals Liverpool on Saturday. Mourinho’s second placed side moved five points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League thanks to Marcus Rashford’s first half double at Old Trafford. Liverpool dominated possession as United sat back for long periods and Eric Bailly’s second half own goal set up a tense finish. But United stuck to Mourinho’s conservative game-plan to clinch the points and the Portuguese coach was in typically defiant mood when asked about the defensive tactics. “If people don’t think we deserved it, I don’t care,” Mourinho said. “I am a bit tired, we have a match on Tuesday. I don’t care what people say. The boys are happy, I’m happy.” Mourinho insisted United had been rewarded for taking their chances in the first half and he was happy with the way his players soaked up the pressure after the interval. “We can split the halves. United first half and Liverpool second but in my opinion our first half was a half with goals and danger,” he said. “In the second half – in my opinion, and probably the people in the studio have a different opinion – was Liverpool controlling with the ball and United controlling without the ball. “Against Liverpool if you play bad when you have the ball you can be in trouble. “Our team was always in control. Even in set pieces, corners, dangerous situations we were in control so I think we deserved it.”
