  1. Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed 15 Fulani herdsmen in the latest bout of violence in northern Nigeria’s herding communities. The Police Command’s Spokesman, DSP Mohammed Shehu confirmed this to newsmen in Gusau. He said that the killing was perpetrated by gunmen who came in large numbers and attacked the village in the early hours of Wednesday, shooting sporadically. “The villagers who were taken unawares were quick to alert a nearby mobile police patrol team which ca me and engaged the bandits in a gun battle. “The policemen overpowered the bandits even as many of them escaped with gunshot wounds,”‎ Shehu said. He, however, urged members of the public to be on alert to report to the nearest authority anyone seen with bullet wounds and seeking medical attention. “Armed bandits attacked Bawon-Daji village yesterday and killed 15 people,” the police spokesman for Zamfara state, Muhammad Shehu, told AFP.
  2. Suspected armed bandits have killed at least 8 people in an attack on Dogon Daji village in Maru local government area of Zamfara state. The attack came barely two weeks after a notorious cattle rustling kingpin called Buharin Daji was killed by one of the repentant bandits and his close associate known as Dogo Gide. Last month, 41 people were killed in an attack on Birane village by the suspected armed bandits in Zurmi local government area of the state. According to Daily Trust, a resident, Yusha’u Bingi said 7 persons were buried in the village adding that some residents were also abducted by the armed bandits. A former councillor identified as Musa Umar Bini who represented Bingi, the political ward of Dogon Daji village told Daily Trust that information reaching him indicated that 8 residents were killed in the attack. He said the armed bandits had earlier attempted to attack Bozaya, Tungar Rakumi, Dibgawa and Danbore villages all in Maru local government area of the state. He added that the armed bandits have been intercepting and killing residents around the communities in the area ever since the notorious cattle rustling kingpin called Buharin Daji was killed.
  3. President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan Ali to Zamfara, where scores of people were massacred by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. Although the police put the casualty toll down to 18, reports said as many as 36 people could die in the attack on Birane village, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Garba Shehu, a presidential media assistant, said in a statement that the "President commiserates with families of victims" and believed the attack was "heinous and inhuman attacks". "President Buhari directs the Minister of Defence, Brigadier-General Mansur Dan Ali (Rtd) to proceed immediately to the state to undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and report back. "In addition, he directs security agencies to immediately mobilize and deploy their members to the vulnerable areas of the state, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to face the full wrath of the law. "The President assures the Zamfara State government, victims of the mayhem and residents in the state, that the Federal Government will continue do all it takes to support security agencies to secure lives and property, not only in the affected state but all parts of the country. President Buhari restates his administration's determination to put an end to the spate of senseless spilling of innocent blood in parts of the country, and calls for restraint to allow the nation's security apparatus to stem the undesirable trend," the statement concluded.
